The World

Hihou is one of my absolute favourite cocktail bars in Melbourne.  This Japanese bar ticks all the boxes, excellent design, views over Treasury Garden, an intriguing cocktail list, superb Japanese cuisine and a Japanese service ethic that differentiates the bar from others in the city.   The service is some of the best I have had in any bar and it is a pleasure to visit and enjoy the professionalism of the staff.

Your experience starts as you ring the doorbell on the unmarked black doorway located on Flinders Lane just off Spring Street behind Nama Nama sushi bar.   You are cordially greeted by the Japanese wait staff with a tradition bow.  You are then ushered in and asked to wait near the private sake cellar and tasting room.  From there you are escorted upstairs to the small but charming bar complete with all the elements you need for a great bar.  The design highlights are timber, stone and cement, the bar features sake, beer and cocktails, the menu features Japanese delicacies and the service is attentive and extremely professional.

This is the prefect place for a romantic date, elegant night out or for quiet drinks with friends.  The size and atmosphere of the bar preclude noisy parties so if you want to be able to chat and enjoy your conversation this is the spot.

Hihou is located on the 1st floor at 1 Flinders Lane in the city and is open for lunch Monday to Friday, evening drinks Monday to Saturday and for afternoon tea the last Saturday of every month.   Hihou can be contacted on 03 9654 5465.
