Bar Ampére is one of my favourite cocktail bars in the city. Located on one of Melbourne’s great lane-ways Russell Place. Bar Ampére is unusual to say the least.
Bar Ampére is an ode to modernism with several unusual decorations such as mannequin hands protruding from the walls, an art deco train engine inspired bar, a light wall made from bottles, gratified terrace and a swamp room. Yup you heard me a swamp room. Think Louisiana speak easy in the middle of swampy nowhere. It just does not get any more crazy or better than this.
If you are interested in unusual design, great cocktails, friendly staff and want to go somewhere that will spur conversation this is your bar.
Bar Ampére is a favourite with hospitality staff as it is open late seven days a week. They make a mean Negroni and there are always some great characters around for people watching.
My tip, go on a weekend night when the swamp room is in full swing.
