Stokehouse City

I had great expectations for my visit to the new Stokehouse City for two reasons.  Firstly the building itself which is one of Melbourne’s best examples of Victorian architecture used for a restaurant and secondly to see how the decor had been change since its previous incarnation as another restaurant.  I had many fond memories of the bar and function space in its previous incarnation, so my eyes were due to be critical!

Gladly my anticipation was warranted as I enjoyed one of the nicest evening I have had in a quite a while.  The dining room is an elegant blend of the Victorian architecture with modern accents.  The food is as you would expect from Stokehouse, superb!  The wine list is extensive and the knowledge of the team with wine pairing is excellent.

I love everything including the new incarnation of the dining room.  Downstairs is a more casual bar for those looking for a really cool spot to have a drink and something to eat.  Perfect for afternoon or after work drinks.   Upstairs the dining room is elegant as were the patrons.  It was wonderful to see so many well dressed patrons enjoying their evening.

In the end this restaurant has everything you could want.  A superb lane-way location, Victorian architecture, modern decor, excellent food, superb service all with a wine list to match.

The pictures speak for themselves!  You simply must try.

Stokehouse City is located at 7 Alfred Place in the city and is open seven days a week for lunch and dinner.  You can contact them on 03 9525 5555.

Stay tuned for the return of Stokehouse now under construction!
