Sarti

Sarti has long been a favourite of mine and has recently undergone a refurbishment to make it even better.   Located on one of the best lane-ways in Melbourne, Russell Place, not to be confused with Russell Street.  Russell place is now bustling with excellent cafes, restaurants, bars and fashion stores.  This is one of Melbourne’s best lane-ways locations and yet the lane is only a few hundred metres long.

Sarti features a large bar area great for dropping in after work for a few drinks and some excellent snacks.   The dining room boast a slick and polished atmosphere with a long banquette of tables and several stand alone tables.  There is a small window to the open kitchen allowing you to enjoy the goings on.  The table settings are bright and colourful giving the restaurant and air of fun and adventure, just like the menu.  There is also a glorious terrace which has a very urban feel and is one of the best outdoor terraces in the city.  On a warm day there is no better place for lunch than Sarti.  The terrace is one of Melbourne’s in the know secrets and is very popular on a beautiful day so make sure to book early or stay in a hotel with a great Les Clefs d’Or concierge who can get you in last minute!

One of the great things about Sarti is their inventiveness with the menu.  Sarti has a modern and refreshing twist on Italian cuisine and often features delicious items such as venison or rabbit along with many traditional meat and seafood selections.   You will find a menu full of excellent choices such as the duck roll pasta with field mushrooms and parmesan or beetroot cavatelli with home made quail sausage parmesan fondu and pine nuts.   Some excellent choices for the main course are suckling pork two ways with pancetta wrapped fillet crumbed terrine with apple and baby onion or herb rolled rabbit quinoa salad with pistachio and charcoal carrots.  The menu is so well created choosing is simply impossible and I find myself wanting to return to try what we didn’t order.  Rest assured that there is also an excellent selection of local and Italian wine, beer and spirits to compliment your meal.

One of the great things about Sarti is the excellent service, friendly and fun making this a wonderful place for a dinner with friends or for a romantic dinner.   The team here really do an amazing job on special occasions and are wonderfully adept at making your special someone feel extra special.  My tip, if your out to impress on a romantic night out book at Sarti.

One of my favourite things to do is visit Sarti for a light lunch while shopping in the city, which is exactly what I did on my last visit.  I can’t wait to return to explore this menu again and again.

Sarti is located at 6 Russell Place and can be contacted on 03 9639 7822 or on Twitter @SartiRestaurant
