Le Bon Ton

Darlin…….you had me at southern style buttermilk fried chicken!

Le Bon Ton is fast becoming one of Melbourne’s hottest in the know restaurants, cocktail bars and absinthe saloons.  Located on Gipps Street in Collingwood this conversion from the old Glass House nightclub has brought life back into this glorious old pub.

Themed as an American smoke-house roadside pub you are transported into a Louisiana/Texas speak easy complete with BBQ and oyster shucking, dripping wax candles, chandeliers and copper punch ceiling tiles.   This place simply just rocks.

The food is excellent and hands down Le Bon Ton has the best hamburger I have had in Australia bar none.  Seriously, this burger rivals anything I have had in North America!  My favourite dessert has always been coconut cream pie and while this is not on the menu just yet (oh please oh please) banana cream pie is.  It’s a single serve done to perfection.  Le Bon Ton is the only place I have seen this in Australia but don’t let this diminish my adoration, and like the burger, the banana cream pie is perfection, sinful, wondrous, scrumptious…..well, you get the idea!  Also on offer are Texas chilli cheese fries (yes really!), southern buttermilk fried chicken, BBQ beef brisket sandwich and blackened (Cajun spiced) market fish and Le Bon Ton Chicken Wings pit smoked for 2 hours over cherry wood.

Ok so you get the idea, this is not the place to count calories.  All I can say is if you’re up for a great pub/restaurant, great service staff, great food and an awesome time -you better giddy up to Collingwood soon!

Le Bon Ton is located at 51 Gipps Street, Collingwood, can be contacted on 03 9416 4341, and is open from Monday to Thursday from 5pm to 1am, Friday and Saturday from 5pm to 6am, and Sundays from 12 to 12.  With its late hoursLe Bon Ton is fast becoming a hugely popular hang out for the hospitality crew, so if you want to meet the coolest crowd in town, this is the place!

My tip?  You guessed it -the burger and banana cream pie washed down with a craft beer.  Oh Ya Peep!  This one is a keeper.  Thank you Le Bon Ton, Melbourne is now complete!
